On April 24, 2020, the Conejo Valley Unified School District communicated the following on their website regarding the grading policy for Semester 2 of the 2019-2020 school year:
CVUSD No Harm Grading Policy (4/24/2020):
“High School students will earn letter grades at the end of this semester which will be reflected on their transcript and be based on Quarter 3 grades reported as of March 27, 2020, and any completed work or assessments beginning April 27, 2020. “Do No Harm” means that the students’ final grade will not be lower than the grade earned for Quarter 3 (CA, CVHS, TOHS, WHS), or Term 2 Semester 1 (NPHS).”
Grade Improvement During Distance Learning
“Students may increase their grades with completed work and/or assessments during this period of school closures. It is expected that students remain engaged to the highest degree possible and complete all assigned work and assessments as determined by their teacher(s).”
What does this mean for me?
Basically it says your final grade cannot be lower than what was earned on the Quarter 3 progress report, but it can improve.
So if I like my grade, I don’t have to do the assignments?
Technically, yes. That’s what it says.
However, there is something to keep in mind if you are considering to stop completing assignments for this class:
Math is a subject that constantly builds on previous material. So even if you have an A for your Quarter 3 grade, not completing assignments and hence, not trying to learn the material will put you at a disadvantage in your math class next year. These next few weeks aren’t about the grade but about learning to understand the math we are teaching. I strongly encourage you to continue to put effort into the assignments and consider the feedback you receive in order to keep you as on track as you can be for next year.
